Product description

What it shows and where to use it:
This handheld sonar system reports water depth, indicates likely fish locations and estimates relative fish size (small/medium/large). It can distinguish short and tall aquatic vegetation and shows bottom composition such as sand and rock. Designed for use from kayaks, piers, small boats and for ice fishing, it can also be trolled or used while drifting if the boat speed stays below about 5 mph; for accurate readings the transducer face should be held horizontal to the water.

Portability and power:
The unit is compact and easy to carry. A neck strap is included so you can keep the display at hand while paddling or casting, and the main unit fits easily into a tackle box or pack. It runs on four AAA batteries (not included) and will typically operate for about 4–5 hours of continuous use with fresh cells. The electronics work in both fresh and salt water.

Sonar and display details:
The finder uses a 200 kHz sonar frequency and a transducer with a 45° beam angle to scan beneath the sensor. The detectable depth range is approximately 3 ft / 0.9 m to 328 ft / 100 m below the transducer. Readouts appear on an LCD with LED backlighting for better visibility in varied light. The system can show bottom nature (grass, rock, sand) as well as fish arches and vegetation returns.

Controls and functions:
Operation is straightforward: lower or toss the transducer into the water, power on the display unit and watch depth, bottom returns and fish indicators. The unit offers five sensitivity settings, a battery-save mode, backlight control, a fish alarm and metric/imperial unit selection. User settings are retained when the unit is switched off.

  1. Newton B. 4/5

    Accurate and useful

Surprisingly precise for a compact unit. A handy tool for quick checks on depth and fish presence.

  2. Nate 3/5

    Long-term user finds it helpful

I've used this for a few years on my float tube while fly-fishing. Not the most detailed fish detector, but excellent for depth and weed detection. Handy for locating ledges and vegetation.

  3. Scott 1/5

Stopped working after a couple uses

Worked the first two outings but now it won't power on. Very disappointing and the seller didn't provide helpful support.

  4. MJB 5/5

Works fine for a small boat

I bought this for my daughter to use on a small lake boat. She reports it works well. I mainly use these as depth finders and it helped us locate the 5–10 ft zones where we caught several bass in an hour. Bring spare batteries.

  5. Phil gregory 5/5

    Handy for kayak trips

This won't match the larger finder on my pontoon, but I didn't expect it to. For a lightweight unit I can bring on my kayak it performs well, giving reliable depth and fish indicators without extra bulk.

  6. Michael S. 5/5

    Impressive and easy to operate

I was pleasantly surprised at how simple it was to use. I hung the transducer over the side and the fish alarm alerted us. It performs better than I expected.

  7. Kindle Reader 5/5

    Great little unit

Very clear readings — we trolled it behind a raft and set the alarm; it helped us find good fish. It does consume batteries fairly quickly when left on.

  8. BADSHAH 2/5

Not suitable for some local fishing styles

Too costly for what it delivers and it doesn't suit some fishing techniques used by anglers in India.

  9. WM 5/5

Good depth readings on the kayak

I trailed the transducer behind the kayak while paddling and it read depth accurately. It doesn't render bottom contour like full-size systems, but for a portable tool it worked well. Setup is simple — insert four batteries and connect the transducer. Screen remains readable in bright daylight.

  10. Robert Bestward 3/5

    Looks promising but unused

Unit looks good. I'm giving three stars because it hasn't been used yet.

  11. Rick V Wilde 4/5

    Arrived well packaged

Delivered on time for my grandson. Appears well made and easy to use, though we haven't had the chance to test it yet.

  12. Sam 5/5

    Simple setup, does the job

Assembly and setup are very straightforward. It functions as intended.
