Product description
The HyperReef Gen 2 is a 100W reef LED fixture engineered for LPS and SPS systems. The lamphead uses an enhanced violet-plus-blue spectral mix intended to boost coral pigmentation and growth while increasing fluorescence. The fixture incorporates a custom wide-angle optical array that spreads output for broad, even PAR distribution and minimizes hotspots across the tank.
Thermal management has been upgraded with a reshaped aluminum heatsink and a new low-noise fan to disperse heat more effectively, prolonging LED life and maintaining quieter operation. Control-wise, the unit includes two USB-C ports for linking to an external controller (controller sold separately) for advanced scheduling and color tuning. Basic preset modes can run the unit without the controller, but full programmability requires the accessory.
Mounting versatility is a highlight: the Gen 2 supports multiple attachment methods, including multi-light mounting brackets, single-arm supports, and hanging kits to fit different aquarium setups. The package ships with the LED fixture and power cable; mounting hardware options are available separately or as bundle choices depending on configuration.
Pros
- Coral-focused violet/blue spectrum for enhanced growth and fluorescence
- Wide-angle optics for even PAR and reduced hotspots
- Improved heatsink and quiet fan for reliable thermal control
Cons
- Full feature set requires a separately sold controller
- No built-in Wi‑Fi or phone app control
- Some users report remote pairing or connectivity issues
VerdictThis 100W HyperReef Gen 2 offers a coral-focused spectrum, broad, uniform coverage and improved thermal engineering; it's a strong option for mixed LPS/SPS setups when paired with its separate controller. The light delivers visible growth and color enhancement, mounts flexibly, and runs quietly. Downsides are the reliance on an extra controller for full functionality and the lack of built-in wirel

Consistent months-long performance
After several months my mixed reef is thriving — softies, LPS, SPS and anemones all look healthy. Planning to add another unit.

Set it and forget it
Very bright, full-spectrum output. Initial programming is a bit fiddly, but once set it runs reliably and retains schedules through power interruptions when the controller is used.

AB+ spectrum — corals are thriving
Fantastic fixture — my corals have shown clear improvement. My husband liked it so much he ordered more for his tanks. Note that some functions need the separate remote. Still dialing in settings but very pleased overall.

Premium feel — get the controller
The fixture feels well built and performs beautifully. I expected wireless control but it needs the separate controller to program — presets help in the meantime.

Excellent growth but no Wi‑Fi is a drawback
Output grows corals very well. I docked a star because it lacks built-in wireless and requires buying the separate remote, which is annoying.

Very bright — controller recommended
Extremely bright and straightforward to mount. Works great with the separate controller; without it some features are locked. Fits my IM 20 perfectly.

Remote never paired — frustrating
The remote would not connect, so I couldn't adjust the fixtures. Tried multiple resets and plugs with no success. Without reliable control it was unusable for me.

Recommended for rescues — corals look great
We recommend this light often. Corals in our care have flourished under it. Setup and programming are intuitive, with customizable color and scheduling.

My go-to light for all reef tanks
I installed these on every reef I own. Build quality and output punch well above the cost. Fully controllable and stylish — my preferred choice now.

Fast replacement, easy setup
Needed a quick swap and received it fast. Took a minute to find the preset profiles, then it was simple to get running. Corals have responded well.

Performance on par with pricier units
I paired two with the controller. PAR readings are accurate and match higher-end lights. The mounting brackets are sturdy and well made. Controller presets are easy and very effective. Would buy again.
