Product description
Construction and materials: This single-compartment nesting box is crafted from paulownia wood, chosen for being sturdy yet light. It has a smooth finish both inside and out to make cleaning easier and to reduce splinters.
Dimensions and capacity: The unit measures about 14.5 inches high by 13.75 inches long by 13 inches wide, providing a comfortable space for hens and similarly sized poultry to lay eggs.
What’s included and assembly: The box ships with simple assembly instructions. All screw holes come pre-drilled and countersunk so panels align easily; assembly can typically be completed in minutes using the provided guide.
Design and placement: The nesting box can be placed on the ground or mounted to a wall, depending on your coop layout. It is built without a full rear panel to encourage ventilation and to make it easier to monitor eggs and spot intruders like snakes.
Suitable users: Intended for backyard chicken keepers and small-scale poultry raisers, this nesting box also works for ducks, pigeons and other birds of similar size.
Pros
- Lightweight, durable paulownia construction
- Pre-drilled holes and clear instructions for quick assembly
- Can be freestanding or wall-mounted; open rear improves ventilation
Cons
- No full back panel may allow drafts or pests
- Thinner wood may weaken with frequent moisture exposure
- May require replacement or reinforcement for long-term outdoor use
VerdictWell-made and lightweight, this wooden nesting box offers roomy interior dimensions and straightforward assembly thanks to pre-drilled holes and included instructions. The open-back design helps airflow and makes egg checks simple. Good for backyard flocks, though the thinner wood and open rear may limit long-term outdoor durability in damp conditions.

Simple assembly and my hen took to it
Easy to assemble for a first-time chicken owner. My hen Goldie settled in right away — she started using it within a day and has laid several eggs there in just a few days.

Chickens adopted it immediately
Very straightforward design and quick to put together. No instructions really needed, and my hens began using it as soon as it was installed.

My flock prefers this box
The hens use this box exclusively now. It’s been a hit in my coop and I plan to add another unit.

Good function, watch moisture exposure
Does the job: roomy, easy to set up, and the hens accepted it. The materials feel a bit light, so I worry about longevity if it’s left in wet conditions frequently.

Well-drilled holes and clear directions
Assembly was straightforward with well-aligned, countersunk holes and instructions included. Size is just right. I’d prefer a solid back rather than a strip, though.

Bought two; assembly was quick
Purchased a pair for broody hens. The parts went together in about 15 minutes using the included directions. Wood seems decent and I’d order more if needed.

Cute look but wood is thin
The assembled boxes look attractive, but the wood feels inexpensive. I traced the parts to make a template so I can build stronger versions later.
