The Winter White Cosmopolitan is a seasonal variation of the ever popular Cosmo; it’s equally delicious and especially beautiful during the holidays!

I missed a recent Friday Cocktails post while spending time with family, and it felt right to share a festive cocktail now. The Winter White Cosmopolitan is a lovely seasonal twist on the classic Cosmopolitan—elegant, easy to make, and perfect for holiday gatherings or New Year’s celebrations.
A reader first mentioned the Winter White Cosmopolitan after seeing it served at a popular seafood chain. I hadn’t encountered it before, so I looked up recipes and discovered a range of versions. One update I found included a small measure of an elderflower liqueur, which adds a floral note that pairs beautifully with cranberry.
The “white” in the cocktail comes from white cranberry juice. White cranberries aren’t a different species; they’re regular cranberries harvested before they develop the deep red color. Their juice retains the tart cranberry flavor but is pale in color, making for a strikingly pale cocktail that looks right for snowy, wintry decor.
Finding white cranberry juice locally took a little effort. After checking several stores, I finally located a bottle at a grocery I don’t usually visit. If you’re looking for it, check store inventories before you go—calling ahead can save you time, especially during busy holiday shopping days. If white cranberry juice proves hard to source, you can still make a pleasant variation using regular cranberry juice; the profile will be a bit darker but just as festive.

There are a few ways to approach this cocktail. Some recipes call for cranberry-flavored vodka; others use plain vodka. I used cranberry vodka for color and a touch of extra cranberry character, but plain vodka works perfectly well. The elderflower liqueur called for in some versions—St. Germain is a common example—adds a delicate floral sweetness. It’s used sparingly in this cocktail (about one tablespoon), so a small bottle or an alternative elderflower liqueur can be a good, more economical choice. If you prefer, you can omit it entirely and still have a delightful drink.
For a winter-appropriate garnish, frozen or sugared cranberries and a small sprig of mint make the cocktail look festive and feel seasonal. Serve it in a chilled martini glass for the best presentation.
This version of the Winter White Cosmopolitan blends elements from older and newer recipes: cranberry or plain vodka, Cointreau for orange balance, lime juice and simple syrup for brightness and sweetness, white cranberry juice for the pale color, and a hint of elderflower liqueur for floral depth. It’s an elegant, easy-to-make cocktail that’s ideal for holiday entertaining or a quiet winter evening.
