Product description
Included: One Wilson GRT leather game football, offered in official size and other size options for youth and varied levels of play.
Materials and construction: The ball uses a proprietary zero-prep leather that arrives soft and ready to use, along with a low-pebbling surface that aims to mimic a broken-in feel from day one. The Accurate Control Lacing (ACL) is textured rather than smooth to increase hand grip in wet or dry conditions. Stripes are sewn on with a composite material instead of paint to improve grip and throwing consistency. The football is crafted from premium S.B. Foot Tanning Co. / Red Wing leather and finished by skilled workers in Ada, Ohio.
How it’s used: Designed for immediate on-field use, this football removes the need for initial brushing or conditioning. It’s built for passing precision and secure handling thanks to its grip-focused lacing and sewn stripes, and is intended for organized play across youth and high school levels. The combination of softer leather and low pebbling makes it suitable for quarterbacks, receivers, and specialists who prefer a game-ready feel.
Pros
- Playable straight from the box with zero-prep leather
- Enhanced grip from pebbled ACL lacing and sewn-on composite stripes
- Premium S.B. Foot/Red Wing leather, handcrafted in the U.S.
Cons
- Some units show cosmetic or manufacturing defects
- Occasional reports of valve or sizing inconsistencies
- A few users have found missing competition approval markings
VerdictThe GRT is aimed at players who want a high-performance ball without spending time breaking it in. Its zero-prep leather and low pebbling create an immediately softer touch, while pebbled ACL laces and sewn-on composite stripes give dependable grip and throwing accuracy in varied conditions. Constructed from premium S.B. Foot/Red Wing leather and assembled in the U.S., it brings pro-level material

Roger Bowersox 2/5
Good feel, air loss issue
Nice touch and handling, but the valve leaked — it dropped from 12.8 psi to flat in about two hours. Also felt a bit smaller than my GST.

Authentic leather
Genuine leather feel — exactly what you’d expect from a real leather game ball.

Mostly solid, finish could be better
The ball plays well, but the overall construction quality didn’t always match the cost of the item.

NR-NY 5/5
Field-grade leather feel
Matches the leather used in high school games — grippy and authentic to the touch.

Not suitable for sanctioned games
Bought two for high school use but they lacked the NFHS approval mark, so they couldn’t be used in competition. Seller service was fine, but the manufacturer should supply the required stamp.

Donavan 5/5
Ready to play right away
Pleasantly surprised by the feel and look out of the package; performs well without any break-in. If you want a more personalized feel, consider the GST, but the GRT saves prep time.

Visible defects after unpacking
Found the logo peeling in two spots and a few small punctures in the hide. It feels great, but the cosmetic damage was disappointing — I’d consider other options.

Kicker’s view: game-ready immediately
As a kicker/punter I appreciated being able to use it right away. My unit had good quality and didn’t need the long break-in that GSTs often require.
