Now that the “spring ahead” clock change has passed and we’ve said goodbye to that extra hour of sleep, it’s the perfect time to recharge with a bright, healthy Spring Green Smoothie Bowl. This recipe is a cheerful way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day week or simply welcome spring—just look at that refreshing green color!
I couldn’t resist decorating one bowl to resemble an Irish flag, and I may have tried to arrange a few spinach leaves like a four-leaf clover (nerd alert). The bowl styling is part of the fun: vibrant, photo-ready, and delicious.

Why choose a smoothie bowl?
If you’ve wondered why bowl and not just a drinkable smoothie, here are a few good reasons that make the bowl worth trying:
- On-trend and satisfying. Smoothie bowls are everywhere because they blend convenience with a satisfying, spoonable texture. They feel more like a meal and less like a beverage.
- Toppings make them irresistible. Adding crunchy nuts, seeds, fresh fruit, shredded coconut or a drizzle of nut butter turns a simple smoothie into a layered experience. The topping possibilities are endless, so it’s easy to customize every time.
- Eat your calories, don’t just drink them. I prefer the texture and satisfaction of eating a meal with a spoon. Smoothie bowls let you add hearty toppings—making them more filling and balanced than a thin, drinkable smoothie.
How to make a Spring Green Smoothie Bowl
Start by choosing ingredients that keep the base bright green. For this version I focused on light-colored frozen fruit so the spinach color would stand out. Frozen mango, pineapple, and peaches work perfectly; banana and avocado add creaminess. I finished the blend with a splash of orange juice and almond milk and—optionally—one tablespoon of protein powder for extra staying power.

I used a single-serve blender cup attached to my base for one portion, but a full-size blender works great when making more than one bowl. Blend until silky smooth. If you prefer a thicker bowl, reduce the milk or add more frozen fruit. If it’s too thick, add a splash more almond milk or orange juice.

Pour the green smoothie into your favorite bowl, then get creative with toppings. All three bowls in the photos use the same base but are finished differently for variety and color.

Make them pretty, snap a photo to share, then stir and enjoy. I like to add extra chia seeds and nuts for crunch—delicious and filling.

I had so much fun making these—hopefully you will too. Try different fruit and toppings, and share how you styled your bowl!

Notes
• The base is flexible: you can swap spinach for kale (kale has a stronger flavor) or change the fruit. To keep the bowl vividly green, choose lighter-colored fruits.
• Protein powder is optional. Collagen or other mild-flavored powders add creaminess without altering the green color much.
• For a heavier, creamier bowl, add extra avocado or a dollop of yogurt. If you prefer it lighter, omit the avocado.
• Toppings aren’t measured—decorate each bowl to taste. Nuts, seeds, coconut, and fresh fruit all make excellent additions.
