Product description
Vertical retro handheld experience: The Pocket Taco clips onto the bottom of your phone to create a Game Boy–style form factor ideal for vertical shooters, classic handheld titles, and pixel-era games. The clamp-style mechanism is designed to keep compatible phones stable during play and mimic the feel of old-school vertical consoles.
Compatibility and connection modes: The controller supports Bluetooth operation across Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch and PC. It offers four connection profiles — Android Mode, DS4 Mode, Switch Mode, and G-Touch Mode — so you can switch modes to match the device you’re pairing with. No additional dongles or cables are required for standard Bluetooth pairing.
Fit, weight and protection: The clamp accepts phones between about 5.6 mm and 11 mm thick, so many handsets (even some with cases) fit securely. The Pocket Taco weighs roughly 62.2 g and folds flat for easy carrying. Soft silicone pads line the clamp to prevent scratches and hold the phone in place while you play.
Included accessories and materials: The package contains the Pocket Taco controller, a PP storage box for protection, and a lanyard for easy transport. The shell is lightweight plastic with cushioned membrane ABXY buttons and a responsive D-pad, while silicone protection pads shield the phone from contact damage.
Power and charging: A 600 mAh internal battery powers several hours of gameplay. The design leaves the phone’s charging port accessible so you can charge the handset while gaming; the controller also supports charging separately. Opening the unit powers it on automatically, and closing it will power it off for convenience.
Controls and customization: Tactile-switch triggers, bumpers, and membrane face buttons provide clear feedback. The M-button enables on-the-fly toggles such as turbo, D-pad-to-stick switching, and shoulder swapping without needing the app. For deeper customization you can use the GameSir app to remap buttons, swap ABXY layout, enable diagonal lock on the D-pad, and access touch-mapping modes like G-Touch and V-Touch.
Pros
- Lightweight, fold-flat design for travel
- Multiple Bluetooth modes for wide device support
- Phone-safe silicone clamps and included case
Cons
- Setup can be fiddly on some phones
- Companion app feels incomplete
- Limited ergonomics for long sessions
VerdictThe Pocket Taco turns a modern smartphone into a nostalgic vertical handheld with a secure clamp, tactile buttons, and app-driven customization. It’s extremely portable and works across multiple platforms via different Bluetooth modes, though setup can require some fiddling on certain phones and the companion app still feels like it could use polish. If you want a lightweight, travel-ready control

Tight directional input, but shallow grips
Bluetooth pairing is quick and inputs register instantly in classic arcade games. The D-pad feels precise for combos, and shoulder buttons click satisfyingly, though they’re close together. It’s extremely pocketable, but the lack of deep ergonomic curves can cause hand fatigue in long sessions. Battery life easily handles extended casual use.

Taco every day — reliable and portable
Excellent battery life and separate charging for the controller and phone. Pairing on Android was painless and it worked across multiple Samsung phones I tried. Comfortable to hold, responsive buttons, and it comes with a protective case. Small and premium-feeling, it goes wherever my phone does.

Connection took persistence but now stable
I had to unpair and re-pair a few times to get a stable connection on iOS. After manually connecting through the GameSir app the controller was recognized and has been steady since. Buttons feel solid and battery life has held up through sessions. Fits larger phones like Pro Max models well; comfort over long periods is variable but acceptable.

Cute retro form, iPhone instructions could be clearer
The Pocket Taco nails the Game Boy aesthetic and makes controller-driven mobile games much more enjoyable. My iPhone pairing was frustrating because the brief instructions didn’t match the actual steps needed. Holding the suggested buttons didn’t trigger the correct pairing — a different button pair was required. Once connected it’s great, but the setup guide for iOS needs clearer, device-specific steps.

Solid unit if you don’t mind tweaking setup
The controller works reliably after initial pairing — it powers on when the phone is seated and pairs via Bluetooth. It covers about half my Android screen but leaves the visible top area ample for GBC/GBA titles. The official app is workable but feels unfinished; it lacks artwork and flexible screen placement. I switched to a different front end (Cannoli) and found it handled placements and simple tweaks better. Overall the hardware is fine, but the software side could be improved.

Perfect travel companion for retro play
I wanted a controller that holds the phone vertically and this does that perfectly. Setup via Bluetooth was straightforward and it also pairs with Switch and PC. Battery life is solid and the ability to charge while playing is handy. The small travel case makes it easy to toss in a bag without worrying about damage. Overall a great pick for classic games on the go.

A learning curve worth the nostalgia
Getting emulators and ROMs running took some time if you’re not already familiar with the process, but once set up the device delivers a lot of retro fun. The vertical layout really sells the handheld arcade vibe. The Pocket Taco feels surprisingly well-made for its size and weight; nothing comes across as flimsy.

Great for on-the-go emulation
I’ve used the purple version for a few months on trains and it’s been dependable. Pairing via Bluetooth takes less than a minute, and it gives a much more comfortable vertical experience for classic arcade and handheld games. It’s a compact, affordable solution for Android emulation while traveling.

Responsive physical buttons and flexible use
Setup was straightforward, I used the app, linked accounts, and grabbed a few retro titles. The Pocket Taco is compact, feels solid, and buttons are nice and responsive. It accommodates phones with or without a case thanks to a bit of flex. For full-screen titles you can remove the controller and continue using it wirelessly, offering flexible play styles.

Well-suited for old-school handheld games
After tuning the mode for my S25 Ultra it’s stayed connected reliably. The layout is very Game Boy–like which is ideal for GBA and GBC titles, and it also handles arcade and PS1 emulation well. Buttons are responsive and the silicone clamp lining secures my phone without damage, even with a bulky case on.

Tailored to GBA and simple retro titles
This isn’t a generic gamepad — it’s made for handheld and retro emulator use. It clips onto the bottom of your phone so the top becomes the display while the bottom acts as the controller. Rubber and silicone grips prevent slipping and screen scratching, and the hinges feel robust. It fits with many cases and feels natural for emulation.

Yep 3/5
Doesn’t connect reliably with one ultra model
I found the controller would pair in Bluetooth settings on my S24 Ultra but rarely stayed connected in most modes; only the touch-mapping mode worked consistently. I tested two units and saw the same behavior, while an S23 Ultra worked without issue. D-pad shape is comfortable but I struggled with precision in some cases; face buttons feel conventional. Compatibility varies by handset.
