Pizza Faces: Fun DIY Pizza Ideas for Kids

Pizza Faces

Make holiday cooking with the kids a delight with these playful Pizza Faces. They’re simple, quick, and a brilliant way to get children involved in the kitchen. Using English muffins as the base, you can create cute, tasty mini pizzas in minutes — perfect for lunch, snack time, or as a fun family activity.

Let the children choose their toppings and design their own faces. It’s an easy, hands-on way to encourage creativity and confidence with food, and it doesn’t take long to prepare or bake.

Do your kids enjoy cooking?

Introducing children to basic cooking skills is one of the most valuable life lessons we can give them. Cooking together builds practical skills, encourages healthier eating habits, and boosts confidence. Even simple tasks — spreading sauce, sprinkling cheese, arranging toppings — help develop coordination and decision-making.

Try assigning your child a night to help prepare a family meal, or let them take the lead on a kid-friendly recipe once a week. It’s a great way to share responsibility, spend quality time together, and let them feel proud of what they’ve made.

Fun Pizza Faces

These mini pizzas bake quickly — around 7–10 minutes in a hot oven — so they’re ideal for impatient kids and busy parents. Provide a selection of toppings and encourage imagination: will your child make a bear, a cat, or a little person with broccoli hair?

Broccoli Hair for your Pizza Faces? 🙂

Broccoli makes excellent “hair” and mushrooms can become ears — both are fun and colourful. Offering a variety of vegetables and proteins lets kids explore flavours and textures while building their own edible characters.

Pizza Faces — Recipe

Prep time: 10 minutes • Cook time: 10 minutes • Total time: 20 minutes • Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 4 English muffins, each sliced into 2
  • About 1/2 jar pizza sauce or simple passata
  • 2 good handfuls grated Mozzarella
  • Broccoli (small florets — great for “hair”)
  • Olives, tomatoes, carrot sticks, spring onions, courgettes, peppers, mushrooms
  • Salami or ham, and fresh basil leaves
  • Any other favourite toppings you have on hand

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to Gas 8 / 230°C / 440°F. Use the top shelf for a quick, even bake.
  2. Give the children the sliced English muffins and let them spread the pizza sauce (about 1–2 tablespoons per muffin half).
  3. Sprinkle a little grated Mozzarella over the sauce.
  4. Let kids decorate their muffins with the toppings to create faces or characters — olives make eyes, peppers or courgette slices become smiles, broccoli makes great hair, and carrot sticks can add accessories.
  5. Place finished muffins on a baking tray and bake in the hot oven for approximately 7–10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the edges are lightly golden.
  6. Remove from the oven, let cool briefly, and serve warm.

Tips and variations

  • For older children, try making pizza dough from scratch for a more hands-on experience.
  • Offer a mix of cooked and raw toppings to vary textures — roasted vegetables add depth, fresh herbs add brightness.
  • Use different cheeses (or a mix) for varied flavour: cheddar, mozzarella, or a sprinkle of Parmesan.
  • Make mini-pizza stations with bowls of toppings so children can assemble independently.

Enjoy making Pizza Faces together — they’re quick, customizable, and a fun way to encourage kids to try new foods. Thanks, Clare x
