Hey Momma What’s For Supper #82 offers straightforward dinner ideas to help busy families get healthy meals on the table with less stress.
Hi everyone! Starting this week I’m shifting my menu posts toward the end of the week so they better match a week that starts on Sunday. My aim is to publish on Friday so you can pick up groceries on Saturday and be ready for the week. Mondays are hectic here, and this timing helps me plan and prep more practical, healthy meals.
We did hit a snag this week: a big water break in the yard. It was dramatic enough to remind me of geysers, and the repairman jokingly called it a “Leaky Teaky.” While waiting for repairs on what felt like the longest Monday ever, I squeezed in some reading.

The Southern Living Party Cookbook
I’m enjoying The Southern Living Party Cookbook by Elizabeth Heiskell. She’s well known for entertaining and catering, and this book is filled with approachable menus, party tips, and recipes that read like a friendly guide for busy hosts. One recipe that caught my eye is Hot Cheese Squares—a simple, elegant appetizer that feels classic and comforting. The book also includes inspiring tablescape ideas, which I love because they let you celebrate everyday meals with a pretty table.
My favorite tablescape memory from the book inspired the birthday table I set for my husband in March. Creating a special table doesn’t need to be complicated; small details make a big impression.
The Hot Cheese Squares recipe and several others from the book are available online if you want to try them at home.

Now, let’s get to this week’s meal plan—simple, family-friendly, and designed to reduce last-minute stress.
MENU PLAN THIS WEEK
Sunday – Tacos
I moved Taco Tuesday to Sunday this week because the flavors felt perfect for a celebratory start to the week. Ground turkey seasoned with ancho chili powder, tomato paste, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper makes a quick, flavorful filling. I often triple this mix and freeze portions for busy nights.
Serve with shredded cheddar, lettuce, pico de gallo, and a tangy taco dressing. Add a fruit tray of melon, jicama, and pineapple sprinkled with chili powder and lime. If avocados are in season and reasonably priced, sliced avocado or guacamole are welcome on the tray, too.
Monday – Pulled Chicken BBQ Sandwiches
Slow-cooker shredded BBQ chicken sandwiches with crunchy slaw and leftover fruit from Sunday make a comforting, low-effort Monday meal. The slow cooker does the heavy lifting while you get other things done.
Tuesday – Grill Day
We grill on Tuesday this week:
- Grilled boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- Grilled boneless pork loin steaks
- Oven-roasted corn on the cob
- Southern-style fried cabbage with onions
Grilling offers quick proteins and easy sides that please the whole family.
Wednesday – Leftovers
Leftovers to the rescue! Reheating or repurposing Sunday and Tuesday dishes keeps food waste down and gives you a night off from cooking. I celebrate leftover nights—sometimes the best meals are the easiest ones.

Thursday – Chili Night
Spicy ground turkey chili served with Southern-style cornbread. This is a hearty, flavorful meal that warms the whole family and makes great leftovers for lunches or easy dinners the next day.
Friday – Date Night
We usually eat out on Friday. A weekly date night is a small, consistent way my husband and I enjoy trying new restaurants or revisiting favorites. It’s a nice break from the routine and a chance to explore different flavors.
Saturday – Homemade Pizza Night
Saturday is pizza night and a chance to cook with teens. Pizza brings together meat, cheese, and chewy bread—things my boys are happy to help assemble. I use a simple dough recipe and keep the process relaxed and fun. Homemade pizza can be trial-and-error, but it’s also a great family project and a crowd-pleaser.
If you have a favorite pizza dough method, I’d love to hear it in the comments. Sharing tips makes home cooking easier for everyone.
