Product description
This product is a 5 lb supply of dried mealworms intended as supplemental feed for insectivorous wildlife, backyard birds, chickens, ducks, reptiles and small animals such as hamsters and hedgehogs. The larvae are raised on a diet of carrots and wheat bran, and are marketed as non-GMO and free of added chemicals.
The mealworms are dried using a microwave process and have veterinary certification for safety. They arrive in a resealable bag that helps lock in aroma and keeps the contents dust-free and convenient for repeated daily use.
Nutritionally, the worms are high in protein and contain other nutrients that support immune health and growth, making them particularly useful for supporting baby chicks or wild fledglings through colder months. They are intended as a supplemental treat rather than a sole diet.
For birds that prefer softer food, the bag includes guidance to rehydrate the dried mealworms: soak in warm water for roughly 10–15 minutes before offering. Any uneaten soaked worms should be removed at the end of the day and feeders cleaned to maintain sanitary conditions.
Feeding notes: insect-eating species such as bluebirds, robins, titmice and chickadees show the strongest attraction. Some seed-eaters — American goldfinches, various finches and sparrows, and mourning doves — may take them occasionally; orioles, cardinals and blue jays that eat both seeds and insects will sometimes partake. Hummingbirds do not consume mealworms.
Customer satisfaction is supported by the seller: if the product does not meet expectations, reach out to the seller for assistance and they will arrange a refund or replacement. The product is non-returnable through standard routes, so contacting the seller first is recommended if there is an issue.

VerdictThese 5 lb dried mealworms are a protein-rich, additive-free option for wild birds, backyard poultry and small insect-eating pets. Many customers report strong attraction from insectivorous species and easy handling for feeders. They can be softened with warm water if birds ignore them d

Birds Eat Them Quickly
Wild birds in my yard gobble these up and leave none behind, so they don’t seem to attract rodents.

A Hit with Backyard Birds
These draw more attention from the birds than plain seed does — they clearly prefer them at my feeders.

Roadrunners Can't Resist Them
I put these out mainly for the roadrunners nearby and they immediately take notice. The birds come right over when they see the bag — it’s become a reliable attractant. They eat quickly, which to me means they like them, and the pieces are dry, lightweight and an easy size for the birds to handle. They seem simple to digest as well. I also appreciate having something on hand that would work for chickens too.

Crows Give Their Stamp of Approval
The crows are enthusiastic — they’ll dunk them in water first and then eat them. Squirrels turned them down. Texture changes from crunchy when dry to softer after soaking. The bag contains a lot, and the birds keep coming back for more.

A Go-To Feeder Supplement
I’m not fond of handling worms, but the birds love these and I enjoy watching them. My husband handles the feeding so we’ll keep buying these — the bag holds a good amount and lasts through the season.

Garden Birds Devour; Pond Fish Refuse
After trying a small jar and seeing how much my rarer backyard birds enjoyed them, I ordered the large bag and mix them with seed at the feeder. I’d heard fish like them, but my shubunkins and comets ignored them entirely — even when mixed into their favorite food they refused it. Meanwhile, the birds go crazy for these and I’ve gotten over my squeamishness handling them.

Local Birds Passed; Farm Animals Enjoyed
Quality product, but the birds around my Montana place didn’t take to them. I handed the bag to a neighbor with chickens and other animals so nothing went to waste. It’s a large bag and useful quantity for a farm.
