Product description
What you get: a single container of organic nutritional yeast flakes made without added vitamins, salt, or sugar. The formula contains one ingredient: Saccharomyces cerevisiae cultivated on organic molasses.
How it’s made: the yeast is grown on an organic molasses medium, roller-dried into consistent flakes and finished with a gentle toasting step to develop a savory, toasted character.
Sizes and handling: sold in a resealable pouch (commonly found as a 227 g bag), the flakes keep their quality for up to two years if kept in a sealed, airtight container at room temperature in a dry place.
How to use: sprinkle on popcorn, salads and pasta; mix into soups, sauces or stews; blend into smoothies for a savory twist; and use as the dairy-free backbone for vegan cheese recipes. Note: this product is not active baker’s yeast and will not leaven bread.
Pros
- Single-ingredient, organic formulation
- Natural source of B-vitamins without fortification
- Light toasted, cheesy umami suitable for many dishes
Cons
- Lacks the bright color of fortified nooch
- Can be pricier than fortified alternatives
- Not suitable as a leavening yeast
VerdictA clean, single-ingredient nutritional yeast for people who prefer natural over fortified products. The flakes deliver a mild toasted, savory note and are versatile for sprinkling on salads, pasta, popcorn or folding into sauces and vegan cheeses. The product is organically cultured, roller-dried into uniform flakes and then lightly toasted. If you want an additive-free source of natural B-vitamin

This is a premium, widely available nooch that rivals well-known specialist brands. Other options felt powdery or off-tasting, but this one hits the right notes.

Relief to find truly organic flakes
Organic nutritional yeast isn’t easy to come across, so I’m pleased with this one. It looks clean, tastes good, and for me it’s worth paying a little extra for certified organic ingredients.

A breakfast pantry staple for us
I like that it’s non-fortified, organic and third-party tested. No fillers and GMO-free. My husband and I use it every morning, and a pack lasts a few weeks—much preferred to a B supplement.

Prefer the non-fortified version
I need a yeast without added vitamins due to allergies, and this fits the bill. It works well in vegan cheeses. It’s a bit on the costly side, and the color is subtler than fortified varieties, but we’ve repurchased it for years.

A solid B-vitamin boost for plant-based diets
I tried these LOOV flakes as a vegan looking for nutrient-dense options and was pleasantly surprised. Certified organic, non-GMO and gluten-free, they contain no added vitamins or fillers. The flavor leans slightly cheesy and adds umami to pasta, salads and popcorn—very versatile.

My long search finally ended
After trying many yeast flakes over the years that tasted bitter, this one is mild and pleasant. It has a light, almost smoky-cheesy note that complements cold cubed tofu in salads as if you’d added a touch of cheese. I’m sticking with this brand.
