Designed specifically for Sony FX3 and FX30, the SmallRig HawkLock Quick Release Half Cage (model 4772) is built to complement the camera’s original handgrip while adding protection and rigging capability. The unit is finished in gunmetal gray and intended to work with the Sony XLR handle; it leaves buttons, card slots, the battery chamber, and the flip screen unobstructed so you can operate the camera normally.

The cage uses SmallRig’s HawkLock quick-release concept with a removable NATO rail. A one-button self-locking mechanism allows smooth sliding and fast assembly/disassembly. The modular approach pairs well with HawkLock-compatible accessories, including top and side handles and the quick release mount plate referenced by manufacturer part numbers.

For secure attachment the half cage uses four 1/4"-20 screws to clamp the camera firmly and minimize twisting or lens movement during recording. A built-in silicone gasket protects the camera finish, and the bottom houses a magnetic wrench to help with fast removal. The unit is very lightweight at 3.6 ounces (102 grams), keeping added mass to a minimum for hand-held shooting or gimbal use.

Expansion options are broad: the cage provides 1/4"-20 threaded holes, a 1/4"-20 locating hole, 3/8"-16 locating holes compatible with ARRI-style mounts, a QD socket, and a strap slot. These let you attach magic arms, microphones, LED lights and other accessories for a professional rigging setup.

A built-in Arca-type quick release plate is integrated into the bottom, allowing rapid transitions between handheld, stabilizer and tripod—compatible with common gimbals and Arca-style tripods (for example DJI RS2 / RSC2 / RS3 / RS3 Pro / RS4 / RS4 Pro). This streamlines workflow when switching between shooting modes.

Installation notes: remove the top NATO rail before mounting the camera’s original XLR handle. When using the top plate, compatible hotshoe accessories include certain compact Sony microphones and flashes (e.g., ECM-M1, ECM-B1M, HVL-F32M) and the DJI Mic 2 Camera Adapter; some wireless hotshoe devices are not compatible (for example ECM-W3 / W3S and ECM-W2BT).

    Nice metal finish and tidy layout. If you have large hands the lower grip area may feel a bit exposed; full cages support the pinky better. Right-angle cables make cable clamps less critical.
