Product description
This kit includes the outer drinking cup and the press-in inner purifier cartridge in a 16.9-ounce (about 500 ml) configuration, finished in forest blue. The replaceable cartridge serves as both a mechanical filter and a purifier and is user-replaceable after roughly 300 full presses, which the manufacturer equates to about 150 liters (40 gallons) of treated water.
The purification system is engineered to remove a very high percentage of waterborne pathogens: nearly all common viruses, the vast majority of bacteria, and the overwhelming share of protozoan cysts. In addition to microbes, the cartridge captures particulates including microplastics and reduces many chemical tastes, odors, and some heavy metals, noticeably improving water clarity and flavor.
Operation is simple: scoop or pour raw water into the inner chamber, set the unit on a low surface, and press the purifier down into the outer bottle to force water through the cartridge. The result is ready-to-drink water in the outer sleeve. The bottle’s compact size makes it convenient for backpacking, day hikes, international travel, and emergency preparedness, though the filter assembly occupies internal space when installed.
Pros
- Removes viruses, bacteria, and protozoa
- Compact and portable for travel and outdoor use
- Replaceable cartridge rated for ~300 presses
Cons
- Filter reduces usable internal volume
- Requires firm downward pressure to operate
- Some users report fit or leakage issues
VerdictA robust travel and outdoor water-treatment bottle that reliably removes microbes and many contaminants while improving taste and clarity. It’s compact and straightforward to operate, though the filtering element reduces usable volume and requires some force to press. Good for backpacking, international trips, and emergency kits, but consider carrying extra capacity for heavy hydration needs.

Bulky and questionable value
The bottle is relatively heavy and the filter is tricky to seat into the outer sleeve. After filtering you must leave the cartridge in place, which cuts down usable capacity. One unit arrived without a cap, requiring a return. For the cost I expected fewer hassles.

High-quality filtration
Solid purifier. Compact for short outings but might be cramped for someone who drinks a lot. The inner cartridge can be awkward to remove.

Filters well; water tastes clean
This is my second UltraPress — the first lasted three years but I bought a spare. They perform reliably when assembled correctly and don’t leak. Pressing takes some effort but produces pleasant-tasting water. I use it whenever we suspect tap sources might be questionable and often pour the filtered water into another bottle for my wife.

Not performing well for me
I bought it expecting strong performance. After using it for a month in Peru it leaked repeatedly. The plastic construction didn’t win me over.

Prefer this size to the original
I like this UltraPress size more than the initial model. It’s ideal for travel when water safety is a priority.

Cut down bottled water purchases
Bought for a trip to India and avoided buying bottled water. Handled very murky sources without trouble.

Good quality
Feels solid and well made rather than light. I use it on treks but it’s useful only when you can reach a water source. Filtering needs a firm, slow push.

Transforms travel hydration
This bottle made international travel much easier than boiling or buying bottled water. It takes about a minute to disassemble, fill, and press, but you can then pour filtered water into cups or use it for brushing teeth—unlike straw-style filters. A tether for the small cap would help, and because the cartridge occupies space I also carried an extra bottle for larger fills.

Well built and dependable
Good for long-term storage claims; my unit’s production date was about a year back. The manufacturer responded quickly to questions. Filters viruses and reduces heavy metals.
