Product description
This handheld digital microscope provides a wide magnification range from roughly 20× up to about 200×, driven by a professional 5-element IR‑cut glass lens. The optical assembly feeds a true 5MP sensor capable of producing images up to 2592 × 1944 pixels and VGA-quality video for documentation, analysis, or sharing.
A rotating polarizing filter is built into the body to help reduce reflections on glossy or wet surfaces, improving detail on coins, electronics, textiles and biological specimens. Illumination is supplied by an LED ring surrounding the lens; brightness is adjustable via the control located on the USB cable. A one-touch shutter button on the unit lets you capture stills without clicking on-screen.
The microscope connects to Windows and Mac computers via a plug-and-play USB-C cable that measures over four feet for flexible placement. For extra steadiness it includes a standard 1/4"-20 tripod thread so you can mount it on photographic supports, and the supplied tabletop stand offers a 180° rotating arm plus specimen clips for hands-free inspection. The stand also lets you hold the microscope for scanning larger objects or place items on the base for detailed work.
Included accessories and features: the handheld camera, adjustable stand with specimen clips and rotating arm, USB‑C cable longer than 4 feet, calibration ruler for measurements, and software support for capturing stills, video, annotations and measurements. Use cases range from coin and stamp imaging to SMD circuit board inspection, textile analysis, insect and plant observation, classroom demonstrations and quality control checks.
Pros
- True 5MP sensor for sharp stills and VGA video
- Built-in polarizer and adjustable LED ring light
- Versatile hands-free stand plus tripod thread
Cons
- Software compatibility can be inconsistent across systems
- Shallow depth of field at higher magnifications
- Some users report long-term durability concerns
VerdictDelivers crisp, high-resolution captures and useful glare control for shiny specimens. Ideal for fieldwork, hobbyists, classrooms and inspection tasks, though some users report software compatibility and long-term durability concerns.

Full functionality after installing correct software
The right firmware and Microcapture Pro 2.5 made everything work instantly. I use it for stamp imaging by rotating and stabilizing the microscope; LEDs render colors accurately and allow useful enlargements.

Worked well until Windows updates broke compatibility
I used this for years with no problem, but after a Windows update it stopped functioning and available software wasn't updated to restore compatibility. Feels like a gadget that can become unusable after OS changes.

Good images, needs a secure setup
Image quality is very good, but high magnification requires the subject very close to the lens. The stand only lowers so far, so I had to prop up a stone to bring it into range. Removing it from the stand makes stable imaging harder.

Frustrating software inconsistencies led to a return
I tried multiple computers and downloaded different versions of the manufacturer software; older and newer builds behaved inconsistently and the scope wasn't recognized reliably. I ended up returning it rather than troubleshooting further.

Compact, travel-friendly, with a shaky mount
As a biologist I needed a portable scope that fits in checked luggage. Image quality surpassed my expectations, but the joint holding the scope to the base is a bit loose, so you must focus gently to avoid the view shifting. Support helped with calibration.

Excellent tool for teaching kids
I use it in biology workshops with children and it’s a hit — very easy to operate and delivers solid resolution. With a little creativity it serves well for stereoscopic-style viewing and even some semi-professional tasks.

Worth paying more for dependable results
After trying a cheap knockoff that produced poor images and sketchy software, I bought this Celestron unit and it worked immediately. Plug-and-play setup and much clearer photos of stamped bullet bases — the extra cost was justified.

Excellent performance but limited lifespan
The optics and image quality were outstanding for years, and customer support did replace a failing unit. However, after roughly three years the sensor degraded to gray tones and poor focus at the edges. Great when new, disappointing long-term.

Great clarity once firmware and drivers updated
Initial attempts to get it running on my computers failed, but after contacting support and receiving an updated driver the resolution was fantastic. Mac users may need to request the correct driver directly.

Strong resolution; third-party software works well
Out of the box the 5MP sensor gives the detail I need. Don’t rely only on advertised magnification — resolution matters. Installing the correct codec enables full 5MP output and many third-party capture apps work fine.

Handy microscope for electronics work
Ideal for finding faults in SMD components and checking PCB traces. Resolution is sufficient for both photos and video of inspected areas, making it a practical shop tool.

Good entry-level digital microscope
Build quality matches the price and the software is straightforward. The table stand is useful for focusing, since maintaining exact distance by hand is difficult. Expect limited depth of field at higher magnifications.

High resolution helps, but optical quirks remain
The 5MP sensor provides detail that compensates for some optical faults, but unfocused regions show odd artifacts and noise. There’s no readout of exact magnification and the focal plane can jump as you change magnification.
