Product description
BLUEFIRE Modern MAPP cylinders provide a contemporary replacement for the old MAPP fuel that was discontinued in 2008. Each package includes two 14.1 ounce metal cylinders filled with 99.9% high-purity propylene, produced using the brand’s patented formulation to approximate the performance of historical MAPP mixtures.
The canisters are intended for use with standard MAPP-style torch fittings and deliver a hotter primary flame and higher BTU output than ordinary propane under the same conditions, which shortens brazing and soldering times. The fuel is pure propylene with no added chemicals, so it burns cleaner with less odor and no residues—qualities that make it acceptable for culinary uses such as finishing crème brûlée or grilling, as well as industrial tasks.
BLUEFIRE states that it is one of only two cylinder manufacturers whose products meet federal regulations for lawful transport and distribution across North America. The cylinders are portable, designed for handheld torches and small bench rigs, and intended for tasks ranging from plumbing repairs and metal brazing to culinary finishing and hobby work.
Pros
- Stronger heat output than standard propane
- 99.9% high-purity propylene for cleaner combustion
- Fits most MAPP-style torch fittings
Cons
- Doesn't reach temperatures of original MAPP blend
- Heavier burn may be more than needed for small jobs
- Limited to approved distribution channels
VerdictA practical alternative to standard propane cans when you need extra heat and a cleaner burn. These 14.1 oz BLUEFIRE cylinders offer a hotter flame and minimal residue for metalwork and kitchen torching. They’re suitable for hobbyists and tradespeople who want a portable, compliant fuel option that fits most MAPP-style torches.

Convenient pair for small projects
I keep these 14.1 oz cans in my utility cupboard after using one to heat a stubborn bolt. The second can is ready for the next quick job.

Handy two-pack for quick fixes
We used one can to get under the sink and finish a stubborn repair without running out for more fuel. The torch lit easily and completed the job; the spare remains unused for now.

Dependable for household plumbing
Used one to reflow a copper joint behind the fridge. The flame stayed steady and hot enough to finish the job in a single pass.

Not identical to original MAPP
Calling it “modern MAPP” is a stretch — it doesn’t reach the extreme heat of true MAPP mixtures. It’s perfectly usable for culinary finishes, light soldering, and small brazing jobs, though for heavy-duty work I’d opt for oxy-fuel.

Solid choice for workshop and hobby use
I’ve used these cylinders for various DIY jobs and they performed well. The high-purity propylene burns hotter than propane, making brazing and soldering quicker. They fit my torch, ran cleanly with little smell, and I had no leakage or pressure problems. Good for pros and hobbyists alike.
