Product description
What’s included
The box contains the 42mm GPS smartwatch, two band sizes (small/medium and medium/large) so you can choose the fit that suits your wrist, a magnetic fast-charging cable, and basic documentation.
Design and materials
The 42mm case is built for daily wear and houses the optical and electrical sensors on a durable zirconia sensor plate. Case materials depend on the finish you pick, while bands are supplied in soft, flexible materials for comfort during exercise and sleep. The display and casing are designed to be lightweight and slimmer than some earlier large models, making it easier to wear around the clock.
Health, vitals, and how it’s used
Series 12 emphasizes continuous cardiovascular monitoring: background heart-rate readings can be taken as often as every five seconds, and heart-rate variability (HRV) is sampled regularly—often every five minutes—to help assess stress and recovery. The Vitals app collects overnight metrics and provides a daily sleep score; tracking for menstrual cycles and blood-oxygen measurements is also available. Users interact with these features through the watch UI and companion app on a nearby iPhone, which aggregates insights and offers suggestions.
Fitness and daily readiness
Advanced training features include guided pacing, heart-rate zone tracking, and a Workout Buddy for coached sessions. The readiness experience evaluates recent activity, sleep, and vitals to recommend whether to push hard or take it easy. For motivated users, these features pair with iPhone-based intelligence to fine-tune suggestions.
Safety, battery and charging
Safety capabilities include automatic detection for hard falls and severe car crashes and the ability to contact emergency services and notify chosen contacts. Typical battery life reaches about 24 hours under normal use; a 15-minute fast charge can provide many hours of operation for a quick top-up. Siri AI and Audio Intelligence features enable more natural voice conversations and tools like Live Rewind and summaries, with wider rollouts and some beta features arriving later.
Pros
- Highly frequent heart and HRV monitoring
- Compact 42mm case with long feature set
- Fast charging plus full day battery life
Cons
- Some learning curve to access all features
- Certain bands may irritate sensitive skin
- Advanced audio AI features still rolling out
VerdictThe Series 12 42mm GPS model refines health sensing and daily usability in a smaller footprint. It excels at continuous heart monitoring, sleep and vitals insights, and fitness coaching features while keeping safety tools like crash and fall detection accessible. Battery life is suitable for a full day with quick top-ups, and voice-driven AI features broaden hands-free control. If you want an ever

Big upgrade from my Series 4
Moving up from a Series 4 was a night-and-day change. Battery life is solid, pairing was painless, and it looks great with an aftermarket band. I switched to a metal mesh strap because the stock one irritated my skin; the mesh fits comfortably and stays fresh.

Does everything I need and more
Fantastic build and quality. Setup was quick and the medium/large strap fits well, though I might switch to the smaller loop. It handles heart monitoring and activity tracking flawlessly, feels waterproof, and suits everyday life for someone with heart concerns who stays active.

Performs as advertised
Arrived in good condition and functions exactly as described. There are many features, so it takes time to learn them all, but once familiar it’s very capable. I recommend it.

First impressions: band texture may bother some
Wore it for an hour after switching from a Series 6. The watch itself impresses, but the premium band’s texture felt a bit irritating on my skin. If you’re sensitive, consider a different band finish. I’ll update after more days of use.

Great size change if you prefer smaller cases
I moved down from a 45mm and appreciate the smaller 42mm profile, especially when adding a case. The unit arrived with some light smudging on the sensor side but cleaned up easily with a damp microfiber. It’s thinner than older models and feels more comfortable for daily wear.
